Japan has introduced new banknotes featuring holographic portraits.

Japan has started circulating new banknotes for the first time in 20 years. These banknotes feature three-dimensional portraits of the founders of financial and female education institutions. This feature is designed to thwart counterfeiters.
The notes use printed patterns to create holograms of the portraits, which change direction based on the viewing angle. This technology, according to Japan’s National Printing Bureau, is the world’s first for paper money.
