In an astonishing turn of events, Suzuki has temporarily suspended orders for the newly launched Jimny 5-door in Japan, just four days after its official debut. The overwhelming demand has created an order backlog stretching over three and a half years, leaving eager buyers in suspense.
The Jimny Nomade, a more practical and spacious variant of Suzuki’s iconic off-roader, captured the hearts of Japanese customers immediately upon launch. Within a mere 96 hours, Suzuki received an unprecedented 50,000 orders—far exceeding its production capabilities. With Japan’s current supply limited to just 1,200 units per month, fulfilling these orders would take well over three years. Faced with this staggering demand, Suzuki had no choice but to put a temporary pause on new reservations.
Acknowledging the frustration of potential buyers, Suzuki issued an official statement on its website, apologizing for the order suspension:
“We apologize to customers considering the purchase of the Jimny Nomade due to the suspension of orders. Thank you very much for your interest in our products. The Jimny Nomade has been very well received, and we have received orders that far exceed our production capacity. As a result, we will be temporarily suspending orders. We will provide updates on when orders will reopen, considering the future production situation. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.”
What’s driving this surge in popularity? The Jimny Nomade brings a new level of versatility to Suzuki’s legendary off-roader. By adding an extra set of doors and extending the wheelbase by 340 mm (13.4 inches), the 5-door version offers improved practicality while maintaining its rugged appeal. Despite these changes, the SUV remains compact at 3,890 mm (153.1 inches) in length, making it a perfect fit for both urban and off-road adventures.
The Jimny Nomade is exclusively manufactured at Suzuki’s Gurugram plant in India, with units being exported to various international markets, including Southeast Asia, South Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East. While Suzuki is prioritizing fulfilling existing orders, the automaker has not yet announced when new reservations will be accepted. The first deliveries in Japan are scheduled to begin on April 3rd. Adding to the impact of this high demand, Suzuki has also canceled all planned exhibition events for the Jimny Nomade in Japan, as it redirects efforts toward managing production and deliveries.
For now, Jimny enthusiasts will have to wait patiently for Suzuki to catch up with the overwhelming enthusiasm surrounding this highly sought-after off-roader.
