The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI), the philanthropic organization founded by Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan, has reassured employees that it remains committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts, despite Meta scaling back its own DEI programs, The Guardian reports.
Following Meta’s recent DEI cutbacks, concerns arose among CZI employees about potential ripple effects within their organization. Addressing these worries, CZI’s HR leader, Mark Gundacker, clarified the distinction between the two entities.
“Meta and CZI are and will remain separate organizations with entirely different and independent commitments. Decisions made at Meta do not impact how we operate at CZI. In this case, Meta’s changes to its DEI efforts do not affect ours,” Gundacker told employees, according to The Guardian.
While Priscilla Chan is considered the primary leader of CZI, Zuckerberg remains actively involved. However, despite its independence, CZI has mirrored some of Meta’s corporate shifts, including workforce reductions and ending its remote work policy, The Guardian noted.
The statement underscores CZI’s intention to uphold its DEI initiatives, even as its affiliated tech giant moves in a different direction.
