Norwegian middle-distance star Jakob Ingebrigtsen has rewritten history, shattering the indoor world records for both the mile and 1,500m at the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meeting in Liévin, France.
The reigning Olympic 5,000m champion delivered a stunning performance, completing the mile in an astonishing 3 minutes 45.14 seconds. This eclipsed the previous record of 3:46.63, set just days earlier by Yared Nuguse of the United States at the Millrose Games in New York.
Ingebrigtsen also smashed his own indoor 1,500m world record—set on the same track three years ago—crossing the finish line in 3:29.63. Maintaining an unrelenting pace, he powered through the final half-lap to secure the double record.
“It feels amazing. This is what happens in Liévin,” said an ecstatic Ingebrigtsen. “You have to be fully focused for the entire race. It’s tough, but moments like these make it all worth it.”
His record-breaking feats further solidify his dominance in middle-distance running, underlining his status as one of the greatest talents in the sport.
