Turkish Airlines Resumes Istanbul–Sulaymaniyah Flights After Years of Suspension
Turkish Airlines has officially resumed its direct flights between Istanbul and Sulaymaniyah, Iraq, marking a significant step in restoring air connectivity between the two countries. The service had been suspended for several years due to security and operational challenges but has now returned as part of the airline’s broader regional expansion.
The inaugural flight took off from Istanbul Airport and landed safely at Sulaymaniyah International Airport, welcomed by local officials and aviation representatives. The airline will initially operate four flights per week, with plans to increase frequency based on passenger demand.
Turkish Airlines officials stated that the relaunch demonstrates the company’s commitment to strengthening economic and cultural ties with Iraq while offering travelers more convenient access to northern Iraq’s growing business and tourism hubs.
Ahmet Bolat, Chairman of Turkish Airlines, said:
“Reopening the Sulaymaniyah route is part of our mission to connect more cities and support economic cooperation between Turkey and Iraq.”
This route is expected to boost trade, tourism, and investment opportunities, benefiting both nations. It also supports the broader vision of regional integration and development, providing a vital air link for travelers, entrepreneurs, and expatriates alike.
