Javed Miandad Hails PCB’s Diplomatic Win as Pakistan Secures Champions Trophy 2025 Hosting

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has resolved a long-standing dispute over hosting rights for the Champions Trophy 2025, delivering a landmark moment for Pakistan cricket. The ICC announced that Pakistan will host the tournament, with India’s matches set to take place at a neutral venue, likely in Dubai. Alongside Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been named as a co-host, with matches scheduled in Karachi, Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Dubai.

This decision marks a major victory for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), ensuring the return of a marquee ICC event to Pakistan for the first time since 2008. It also reflects a diplomatic compromise between the PCB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), ending a prolonged deadlock rooted in political tensions and security concerns.

Former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad praised the PCB’s strategic handling of the situation, calling it a win for Pakistan cricket. “The PCB took a sensible and diplomatic approach,” Miandad told PTI. “Instead of isolating itself in the ICC and among cricketing nations, it found a solution that favors Pakistan. In many ways, I believe the PCB has gained more than the BCCI.”

Miandad further emphasized the significance of hosting the Champions Trophy, adding, “We have sent a clear message: if you won’t play in our country, we won’t play in yours. Yet, we’re hosting a major event after a long gap, which is a big win for Pakistan cricket.”

The compromise also extends to future ICC events hosted by India. Pakistan’s teams will play at neutral venues during the Women’s ODI World Cup in 2025 and the Men’s T20 World Cup in 2026. This arrangement ensures Pakistan’s participation while addressing mutual concerns between the two cricketing boards.

The ICC’s decision not only reaffirms Pakistan’s standing in international cricket but also highlights the country’s efforts to reestablish itself as a safe and vibrant host for major sporting events. While the final schedule for the Champions Trophy 2025 is still awaited, this development marks a significant step forward for the sport and its ability to bridge divides.
