Delta Flight 136 from Detroit to Amsterdam was diverted to New York’s JFK early Wednesday morning due to reports of spoiled in-flight meal service in the Main Cabin, the airline announced. Medical crews met the aircraft to attend to affected passengers and crew.
Delta stated that its food safety team is taking immediate action to isolate the affected product and that the airline will conduct a thorough investigation of the incident.
The airline apologized to its customers for the inconvenience and delay in their travels, emphasizing that this is not the level of service Delta is known for.
Flight 136 took off from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport at 10:51 p.m. on Tuesday and landed at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York at 3:59 a.m. the following day, as per FlightAware.
The Airbus A330 aircraft was carrying 277 passengers. Delta provided them with hotel rooms and rebooked them on alternative flights. Flight 136 is now scheduled to depart from JFK at 3 p.m. on Wednesday and is expected to arrive in Amsterdam early Thursday morning, approximately 16 hours behind schedule, according to FlightAware.
