Putin Says Russia–China Partnership Is a “Stabilising Force” Ahead of Key Talks With Xi Jinping

Russian President Vladimir Putin has described ties between Russia and China as a “stabilising force” in global affairs as he travels to Beijing for his second meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in less than a year.

The high-level visit underscores the deepening strategic partnership between the two countries, which have strengthened cooperation in trade, energy, security and diplomacy amid ongoing tensions with Western governments. The talks are expected to focus on expanding economic ties, coordinating positions on global conflicts, and reinforcing long-term political alignment between Moscow and Beijing.

According to Russian officials, the meeting will include discussions on major infrastructure and energy projects, including long-term gas supply agreements and cross-border investment initiatives. China has remained one of Russia’s most important economic partners, particularly as Moscow continues to face extensive sanctions from the United States and European Union following the Ukraine conflict.

In recent months, both leaders have emphasized a shared vision of a multipolar world order that reduces Western dominance in global institutions. Putin’s remarks describing the partnership as a stabilising force come amid growing geopolitical fragmentation and competing power blocs across Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Analysts say the timing of the visit is significant, as it reflects Moscow’s increasing reliance on Beijing for economic support and diplomatic backing. At the same time, China continues to balance its strategic relationship with Russia while maintaining trade ties with Western economies.

The meeting is expected to include formal talks as well as private discussions between the two leaders, covering regional security issues including developments in Eurasia, the Asia-Pacific region and energy markets. Both sides are also likely to review progress on existing bilateral agreements signed during previous summits.

This marks another step in what officials on both sides describe as a “new era” of cooperation, with the partnership between Russia and China increasingly shaping global diplomatic and economic dynamics.
